su-dropcap-style-flat blueLetter\" style=\"font-size:1.5em\">W<\/span>elcome to the Associate Degree in Physical Therapy Program of the University of Puerto Rico in Ponce.\u00a0 The student must complete 72 credits in a two-year period to graduate and three clinical experience with different level of complexity.\u00a0 \u00a0The clinical experiences must be carried out in different places, which will require that the student have transportation to travel significance distance to other towns. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from clinical experience.<\/h4>\n<h4>The graduate of the Program works as the Physical Therapist Assistant and share the responsibility for patient \/ client care with the Physical Therapist, following the plan of care and observing the precautions in the application of the therapeutic functions. The Physical Therapist Assistant provided treatment intervention as delegated by the Physical Therapist according to the plan of care.<\/h4>\n<h4>According to the description provided by the American Physical Therapy Association, the Physical Therapist Assistant provides interventions that include, but are not limited to: therapeutic exercises, massage, ultrasound, electrotherapy, balance and ambulation training, learning and motor development and patient and family education. Interventions often include the use of assisted equipment such as crutches, wheelchairs, orthoses and prostheses. An important component of the intervention involves teaching patients techniques for injury prevention and promotion of health and well-being.<\/h4>\n<h4>The Physical Therapist Assistant also documents information about the patient&#8217;s response to the treatment, including objective data that are part of the patient&#8217;s medical record. The Physical Therapist Assistant is trained to respond to emergency situations in the clinical setting. In addition to patient \/ client care, participates in activities related to billing and coding, quality control for risk management and other administrative activities within the Department.<\/h4>\n<h4>After graduation, candidates must pass the Puerto Rico board exam and \/ or the National Physical Therapist Assistant Examination (NPTAE) to obtain an active license as Physical Therapist Assistant.\u00a0 <strong>The student is required to apply for credentialing to the Board of Physical Therapy in order to be eligible for the NPTAE exam.\u00a0 T<\/strong>he Physical Therapist Assistant License must be renewed every three years. For this, the participation in continuing education activities, including independent study activities.<\/h4>\n<h4>The Physical Therapist Assistant works in the medical services, rehabilitation centers, home health service, industries, sports medicine, pediatric centers, geriatric centers, hospitals, school programs and health promotion programs, among
